Abstract
The aims of this study were to find out how students’ listening anxiety affected students’ listening performance, and to find out the factors that caused students were anxious in listening. The participants of this study were EFL students of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang. We used mixed method in this research study. In order to find out the influence of students’ listening anxiety to students’ listening performance the score obtained from students’ responses to Foreign Language Listening Anxiety Scale (FLLAS) items and the score of students’ listening performance were analyzed by using regression statistical analysis. Meanwhile, in order to find out the factors that made students anxious in listening, the data gained from observation and interview were analysed by using thematic analysis. The findings indicated that there was negative significant influences between students’ listening anxiety and students’ listening performance. It was also found that there were eight factors that made students anxious in listening: 1) lack of language competence; 2) lack of concentration; 3) lack of time management; 4) seating position; 5) mood; 6) health condition; 7) quality of media; 8) classroom condition.
