Abstract
ABSTRACT This research discusses the role of the mobile library at the Office of Libraries and Archives of Ogan Ilir Regency. The purpose of this research is to find out how the roles, as well as the obstacles that exist in the mobile library of the Office of Library and Archives of Ogan Ilir Regency in activities to improve the reading culture for students of SMPN 1 Tanjung Batu. This type of research used in this research is a qualitative descriptive study, with data collection techniques used are observation, documentation, as well as in-depth interviews conducted with 3 library managers, 1 teacher at SMPN 1 Tanjung Batu. As well as 9 students/librarians who take part in the mobile library activities. The results showed that the implementation of the mobile library at the Office of the Library and Archives of Ogan Ilir Regency in improving reading culture for students of SMPN 1 Tanjung Batu was quite good, it can be seen from the let's read program which contains activities that are useful for students. In terms of service, the implementation of the mobile library is not yet fully optimal, because at the service stage of the mobile library, the Library and Archives Office of Ogan Ilir Regency has just implemented on-site reading services, in the sense that there is no circulation service. The mobile library has an educational and informational role, a social role by being a facilitator and mediator by providing reading materials and as a liaison between reading materials and students, acting as a student interest development, and acting as an agent of change, as can be seen from the programs or activities that are run to students. , in the form of story telling activities. The obstacles faced by the Office of the Library and Archives of Ogan Ilir Regency are the lack of facilities and infrastructure. Among them, the Mobile Library Car (MPK) vehicle which only amounts to one vehicle, the lack of equipment/equipment found in the mobile library, collections in the mobile library, and constrained by the lack of awareness of users to visit the library.
