Abstract

This research was based on learning that leads to the activities of a scientific nature from teaching to enganging students directly in teaching and learning activities, as well as emphasize the learning process. This study aimed to determine the effect of POE model (Predict, Observe, Explain) on the science process skills of Muhammadiyah 1 Palembang SMA students. This research method Quasi Experiment design research Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population in this study is the entire class XI SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Palembang consisting of 7 classes totaling 306 students. Sampling was used by Random sampling technique. The sample of this study class XI.3 amounted to 33 students as experimental class and class XI. 2 which had to 33 students as control class. The data was collected using the observation sketches of the science and test (pretest-postest) process that have been tested for validation using Aiken's V formula. The results of this study indicated that the average of students' science process skill through the observation sheet in the experimental class in 2 labs is 77,75 % with good category. While in the control class the percentage of science process skill students 56, 0% with enough category. The result of posttest experimental class 75,7% with good category and control class 58,7% with enough category. N-Gain pretest-postest science process skills An increase in the experimental class of 0.53 belonging to the moderate category and control class of 0.23 belonging to the low category. The results of data analysis using t-test with a significant level of 0.05 obtained t count = 2.630 while ttabel = 1.671 seen that thitung> ttabel. Therefore (Ha) is accepted and (H0) is rejected so it can be concluded that the POE model (Predict, Observe, Explain effect on students' science process skill
