Abstract
This research was a study that aims to analyze the understanding of concepts and factors that influence the understanding of student concepts. This research was conducted in Biology Education Program Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training UIN Raden Fatah Palembang on 02 June 2017. The research type used is descriptive qualitative with case study design. Population in this research is all student of Biology Education Program semester 6 class of 2014 Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training UIN Raden Fatah Palembang of 5 class which amounted to 176 students. Sampling was used by using purvosive sampling technique. The sample of this research is Biology Education students 2 and 3 with total number of 74 students. The instrument used in this research is the test in the form of concept map where each student is asked to create concept map. While the guide to assess the concept map has been validated by 3 supervisors. The results of this study indicate that the understanding of student concepts on the material circulatory system Mammals are at a moderate level with a percentage of 78.4%. Of the seven indicators of conceptual understanding used, students have difficulty in interpreting indicators, exemplifying and comparing. Based on the research that has been done, it can be seen that there are several factors that influence the understanding of student concepts that are the characteristics of the students themselves, motivation, interest and media usage
