Abstract

This research is aims to determine the effect contextual teaching and learning approach toward the critical thinking skills of mathematics student at SMP Negeri 1 Sanga Desa. This method of this study was quantitative research with design research is True Experimental Design with categories posttest-only control design, the population is all class IX in SMP Negeri 1 Sanga Desa 2017/2018 academic year consists of three classes. The sample in this research was taken by using simple random sampling. From third classes of the population are two class of samples that classes are IX.1 as a experiment class with 29 students and classes are IX.2 as a control class with 28 students. The research was conducted at three times of meeting, the first and second meeting for learning and the third meeting for post-test. Research data were collected through test and observation. The datas obtained from the test are used to test the research hypothesis by using . Statistical calculations obtained from the test result generate = 2,7661 and ttable = 2,0040, so that > ttable that causes is rejected and is accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is an effect of contextual teaching and learning approach on critical thinking skills of mathematics student class IX SMP Negeri 1 Sanga Desa.
