Abstract

The objectives of this study are to find out whether or not (1) there is a significant improvement on the tenth grade students’ reading achievement between those who are taught by using Reader Response Strategy and those who are not at SMA Muhammadiyah 6 Palembang, and (2) there is a significant difference on the tenth grade students’ reading achievement between those who are taught by using Reader Response Strategy and those who are not at SMA Muhammadiyah 6 Palembang. the population of this study is consisted of 137 tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 6 Palembang. there were 60 students taken as sample. Each class consisted of 30 students from class X.IPA.B as experimental group and class X.IPA.B as control group. The sample of this study was taken by using convenience sampling strategy study in this study, quasi experimental design especially pretest-posttest non-equivalent group design was used. The instrument used collecting the data was reading test. The result show that (1) there was a significant improvement from students’ pretest to posttest scores in experimental group taught by using Reader Response Strategy since the p-output (0.000) was lower than 0.05 and t-obtained is higher than t-table df=29 (2,0452) and (2) there was a significant difference from students’ posttest score in control and experimental groups, since p-output (0.000) was lower than (0.05) and t-obtained is higher than t-table (df 58=2.0017). So, the Ho (the null hypothesis) was rejected and Ha (the alternative hypothesis) was accepted. It means that there was significant difference on students’ reading achievement taught using Reader Response Strategy than those who are not. Keywords: Reading Achievement, Reader Response Strategy.
