Abstract
Rangrang ants (Oecophylla smaragdina) are insects that are often found anthill in trees such as fruit trees. Rangrang ants can prey on pests such as ladybird green, leaf-eating caterpillars and other insect pests of fruit. Has conducted research on the rangrang’s anthill population dynamics. In Oil Palm Plantation Forest Monoculture in Tanjung Api-api Kelurahan Gasing Kabupaten Banyuasin from December 2013 to January 2012 with the objective of Population dynamics rangrang includes the study population form and character anthill. The research was carried out in relation to human activities that use pesticides in pest eradication and anthill be killed because of the use of pesticides. This research is descriptive quantitative using transec method, retreival of data that is observed derectly rangrang’s anthill, found a long the transec line by counting the many anthill, measure the diameter of the anthill in count the number of individuals countined in the anthill, while the variable includes population dynamics in form anthill. From the results of research population dynamics conducted anthill population rangrang obtained the largest found in oil palm age 4 year with 42 nest, nest shape and characteristics of the nest were tetragonal form, and there were 556,94 – 1153 the number of individuals per unit time. While the lowest population is found in palm oil plantation age 2 years with 13 nests and the average 524,75 of individuals per unit time. Keywords: Population, Oecophylla smaragdina, nest
