Abstract

The objectives of this study is to compare between the reading comprehension achievement of the students who were taught using anticipation guide strategy and conventional strategy at SMP Negeri 52 Palembang. The sample were 60 students that were nonrandomly chosen after mathcing variables at SMP Negeri 52 Palembang in the academic year of 2012/ 2013. A quasi experimental design was used in this study. The data were obtained by means of observation, questionnaires, and test. The result of the test was analyzed by SPSS 16. Based on the results of the data analysis, there were two major findings, namely (1) the students posttest scores of experimental group had significant improvement in reading comprehension achievement from the students pretest scores of control one, where it was found that the p-output was lower than 0.25, (2) the students of experimental group had higher means paired differences than the students of control one, where means paired differences in control group was 15.1667; while means paired differences in experimental group is 29.4000. it means that anticipation guide strategy gives a means significant improvement on students’ reading comprehension average score at the eighth grade students’ of SMP Negeri 52 Palembang and means paired differences of anticipation guide strategy are higher than conventional strategy on students’ reading comprehension achievement at the eighth grade students’ of SMP Negeri 52 Palembang.
