Abstract
ABSTRACT This aim of this study to determine the ability of students to understand mathematical concepts after learning to use teaching aids. The research method used is descriptive method, which is in the form of words, which includes data about students' ability to understand mathematical concepts through the use of teaching aids. Data collection used in the form of documentation, written tests and interviews. The subjects in this study were twenty eight grade students of junior high school with different levels of ability. Documentation in the form of photographs during research activities. The written test was conducted in the form of a post test with five description questions in according with the indicators of concept understanding. Interview to reinforce the results of the post test. From the results of the research that has been carried out the conclusions: (1) in the statistical test questions, there are 40% of students who have a very good ability to understand mathematical concepts, 35% of students have good understanding of mathematical concepts and 25% of students have sufficient ability to understand mathematical concepts. (2) in the test questions, there is a chance that 35% of students have the ability to understand mathematical concepts very well, 45% of students have a good ability to understand mathematical concepts and 20% of students have sufficient ability to understand mathematical concepts.
