Abstract

The aims of this study were to find out the strategies of english teacher in teaching reading comprehension and the strategies used by the teacher to achieve the objectives of teaching reading comprehension. The participants of this study were the eleventh grade students of SMK Nurul Iman Palembang. Case study method was used in this study. The data gained from interview and observation were analysed by using thematic anlaysis. The results showed that there were two strategies for the English teacher in teaching reading comprehension namely, think-aloud and reciprocal. There were also three students’ responses: 1) students understood the material better; 2) students knew more vocabulary, could deduce the essence of the text and were able to understand the difficult level text; 3) students could predict the content of the reading, got important information and could clarify the content of the reading so that they could pronounce it correctly and also knew the meaning of difficult words.
