Abstract

The aims of this study was to find out the difficulties that the EFL (English Foreign Language) high school teachers experience during teaching English in First Class Correctional Institution for children. The participants of the study were English high school teachers in First Class Correctional Institution for children in Palembang. A qualitative research design with case study method was used in this research. In order to collect the data, interview method was implemented in order to get an in depth description and picture of the difficulties of the English teachers. To analyze the data, this research used thematic analysis to determine their difficulties. The findings indicated that there were several difficulties that the English teachers encountered during teaching the young inmates, and they were 1) Time management difficulty, 2) Lack of students attitude, 3) Lack of available textbook and 4) Poor classroom condition.
