Abstract
The goal of this study was to know the kind of students’ errors in translating transitive phrasal verbs, and the dominant error of the students’ in translating transitive phrasal verbs from Indonesian into English. The method of this study was qualitative method. This study classified and identified the students’ errors based on the Surface Strategy Taxonomy proposed by Dullay, Burt and Krashen in 1982. The populations of this study were all of the eleventh grade students of SMA Dharma Bakti Palembang. There were 30 students from XI IPA 1 for the sample in this study. This study used test of phrasal verb as an instrument test to collect the data. The result of this study showed that the students made four types of errors. First, errors of misinformation which became the most dominant errors made by the students in using phrasal verb with 58.94% and errors of ommision occupied the second place of type of errors with 18.94% and followed by addition with 13.70%. Then, followed with errors of misordering with 8.42%. Based on the expalanation above, many students made an error while using the phrasal verb. It indicated that they still have a lack of knowledge about the phrasal verb. Keywords: error, translating, transitive verb, phrasal verb.
