Abstract
The aim of this study was to find out preservice teachers' difficulties in writing research proposal at English study program at UIN Raden Fatah Palembang. I used survey and the population of this study was the eighthsemester students (academic year 2016) consisting of 128 students, where 70 students were selected as the sample. In collecting the data, I applied an instrument which is the questionnaire, it consists of 30 questions of 3 types of factors divided by 13 sub-factors with 5 alternative answers like type scale to capture the students' opinion about their difficulties in writing their research proposal. Descriptive quantitative design was used in this study. The result of analysis shown that students faced difficulties in psychological factors is about 7,14% and the most affecting factor in psychological factor is motivation, for sociocultural factor, there were 20% of the respondents felt having difficulties and there were 78,57% felt neutral, and the most affecting factor in sociocultural factor is in the communicative competence, while in linguistic factor there were almost all of the respondents felt having difficulties in writing their research proposal, where the total percentage of difficulties is about 44,23%, and there were equally has the same percentage of 44,23% of the respondents felt neutral, and 11,44% of the respondents who thought that there were no difficulties.
