Abstract
This study was aimed to find out teachers' perceptions on the use of WhatsApp in speaking activities at SMA Negeri 1 Pedamaran, OKI. This study used qualitative research. One of the qualitative research designs applied in this study was case study design. The participant of this study were two teachers of at SMA Negeri 1 Pedamaran, OKI. The data were collected through interview. The data were analyzed and presented descriptively by using thematic analysis. The results of this study showed that there were some perceptions on the use of WhatsApp in speaking activities, as follows: (1) the exchange of information was faster and easier between teachers and students, (2)WhatsApp allowed the students to study anywhere and anytime, (3) WhatsApp promoted good interaction between teachers and students, (4)limited time allocation in teaching speaking by using WhatsApp, and (5) network disruptions often occurred on the use of WhatsApp. Keywords: Speaking activities, teachers' perception, WhatsApp
