Abstract

This study is aimed to find out the students’ perceptions on the implementation of remedial teaching for English subject at SMPN 04 Banyuasin III. The participants of this study were there students who have received remedial teaching in English subject at SMPN 04 Banyuasin III by using purposeful sampling technique. In this study, qualitative method was used as a research design. In collecting the data, semi-structured interview was used by the researcher as the primary source of information, and supplemented with document analysis. The data obtained from the interviews were analyzed by using thematic analysis. The results of this study indicated that there were five concerns related to students’ perception on the implementation of Remedial Teaching in English subject at SMPN 04 Banyuasin III, they are: (1) The students felt that Remedial Teaching have beneficials for their academic achievement, (2) The students felt teacher explain the material more clearly than regular class, (3) The students felt that effectives to decrease errors in learning English, (4) The students felt motivated to learn English, (5) Most of the students felt they don’t really like English subject.Therefore, it can be concluded that the students of SMPN 04 Banyuasin III have both positive and negative perceptions on the use of remedial teaching in English subject.
