Abstract
This study was intended to find out the teachers’ perceptions on the use of WhatsApp in writing activities at SMA N 14 Palembang. This study used a qualitative research with a case study to find out the teachers’ perceptions on the use of WhatsApp in writing activities. This study was at SMA N 14 Palembang with two of the teachers as the participant by using purposeful sampling. In collecting the data, the researcher utilized one-on-one interviews through openended questions to collect the data about the teachers’ perceptions on the use of WhatsApp in writing activities at SMA N 14 Palembang by following the aspects prepared in the interview guideline. The data were analyzed by using thematic analysis technique. The results of this study based on interviews concluded that there were six perceptions the use of WhatsApp in writing activities, as follows: (1) assisted in enhanced students’ writing skill, (2) independence from location, (3) perceived progress of vocabulary, (4) encouraged students’ collaborative learning, assignment, and evaluation, (5) no internet connection problem, and (6) inexpensive to use.
