Abstract
This study was intended to find out the students’ perceptions on the use of WhatsApp in reading activities at SMP N 3 Penukal, PALI. This study used a qualitative research with a case study to find out the students’ perceptions on the use of WhatsApp in reading activities. This study was conducted at SMP N 3 Penukal, PALI with six of the students as the participant by using purposeful sampling. Specifically, maximal variation sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researcher used interview through open ended questions. The data were analyzed by using thematic analysis technique. The results of this study showed that there were some benefits and limitation of WhatsApp in reading activities. The benefits found were a)Increasing students’ vocabulary, b)Exchanging the information faster and easier, c)Encouraging interaction in group discussion, and d)Being easy to use. Meanwhile, the limitation found was a)Having network Disruptions. Keywords: Students’ perceptions, WhatsApp, reading activities.
