Abstract
Tasawuf is a mystical developed and imbued by Islam. Tasawuf is one of the important and interesting themes in Islam. Throughout the history of Islamic civilization, the tasawuf element is the most misunderstood and debated. So that gives rise to defenders and resisters. One of the sholars intrested in tasawuf was Ibn al-Jauzi, who gives his opinion through criticism of tasawuf and sufi, which was presented in one of his works of the Talbis Iblis. The criticism is based on biased issues about some errors and distortion in tasawuf. The problem in this study is: What about tasawuf in Ibn al-Jauzi perspektive? What cristicisms does Ibn al-Jauzi give to tasawuf? The study usesqualitative methods, which means that all primary and secundary data comes from libraries. The primary data used was the Talbis Iblis and all of Ibn al-Jauzi books that related to research themes Whereas secondary data uses books, journals or other documents related to research themes that came from the other side. The study also uses descriptive analysis method as a data analysis technique.As for the result of this study, the essence of the tasawuf in the early generation of the sufi according to Ibn al-Jauzi is zuhud, which prioritize the afterlife without ignored the world. But in the next generation the essence begins to fade because of the devil wiles causing an distortion in the tasawuf. So Ibn al-Jauzi criticized some things in tasawuf he thought were wrong, for the purpose of reminding sufi and preserves Islam. But despite his criticisms, Ibn al-Jauzi also agreed on some things in tasawuf,one of them was the zuhud. Key Words: Tasawuf, Criticism, Ibn Al-Jauz
