Abstract
The objectives of this research were to find out the correlation and the influence of students’ reading interest to their reading comprehension achievement. The type of this research was quantitative research with a correlation design. The population of this research were 254 students at eleventh grade level of the academic year of 2022/2023 at SMA YWKA Palembang. The cluster random sampling technique was used to select 125 students from the existing population to be used as the samples to collect the data. The data were collected through the reading interest questionnaire and reading comprehension achievement test. The data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment correlation coefficient and regression analysis assisted by SPSS 26. Based on the result of pearson product moment, r-value was higher than r-table df=123 (0.401 > 0.147). Likewise the level of probability (p) significance (sig.2-tailed) was 0.000 which was lower than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). Therefore it can be concluded that there was a positive significant correlation between students’ reading interest and their reading comprehension achievement. And based on the result of regression analysis, the probability (p) significance level was 0.000 which was lower than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). Besides, The value of R2 was 0.161. Therefore it can be concluded that there was a significant influence, and the influence of students’ reading interest contributed 16.1% to their reading comprehension achievement.
