Abstract
This research is a study of the phenomenon of the overseas Bugis community in Upang Ceria Village, Muara Telang District, Banyuasin Regency. The formulation of the problem in this study 1) what is the meaning of siri na pesse for the overseas Bugis community in Upang Ceria Village, 2) how is the realization of siri na pesse for the overseas Bugis community in Upang Ceria Village. This research method is a qualitative type and the form of this research is the field. The approach used in this research is phenomenology. data sources used by researchers are two types of primary and secondary data. The data collection techniques used in this study are observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique in this study is a qualitative description and interpretation. The results of this study are that the Bugis community of Upang Ceria Village interprets siri na pesse as a word of advice from important old Bugis parents, which means shame, pride, self-esteem, and Pesse means solidarity. The Bugis community of Upang Ceria Village realizes the values of siri, shame in the form of messages for their children, pride in the form of always trying and working hard, self-esteem as a form of defending self-esteem through deliberation, as well as pesse, empathy as a strengthening of kinship ties helping each other and mutual cooperation in the local environment. The results of the research conducted by the researcher showed that there was a change in the realization of siri in the form of self-esteem by the overseas Bugis community of Upang Ceria Village, namely only using deliberations as defenders of honor by leaving the elements of violence to kill and expel as was done by the Bugis community before.
