Abstract
Currently, the presentation of information in online media has a strategic role in shaping the public's view of events that occur. events that are packaged well so that they become discourse. Discourse is created in such a way that internal interests are not visible. Online media has the power to influence people's attitudes towards certain events, there are events that occurred in Xinjiang. In this research, the majority of Muslims, often called the Uighur ethnic group, often experience discrimination by China, where China considers Muslims to be religious extratists. The issue of Xinjiang is currently being discussed. media in this issue involving accusations showing that the Chinese government has carried out suppressive actions and violated human rights against the Uighur minority. The aim of this research is to find out how the Xinjiang issue is reported in the CNN Indonesia.com media. In this research, researchers used qualitative methods with descriptive models. The descriptive model is a method used to describe or analyze research results but is not used to make broader conclusions. This method is also intended to collect detailed actual information that shows existing symptoms, identifying to collect actual information. Next, the theory used by researchers is Teun A. Van Dijk's theory. According to him, discourse analysis is not enough to be based on text analysis alone, because text is only the result of a production practice. Basically, critical discourse analysis is to analyze how discourse manages social control, encourages the abuse of one organization's power over others and how the organization controls through discourse against abuse of power, the elements used in Van Dijk's model are three levels, namely, macro structure, superstructure, micro structure. This researcher discovered social inequality in news analysis related to the Xinjiang issue on CNN Indonesia.com media. Keywords: Critical Discourse, Xinjiang Issue, CNN Indonesia
