Abstract
ABSTRACT Name : Oktanisya Fitri Anzila Study Program / Faculty : Islamic Psychology / Psychology Title : Attachment of Parents to Children With Mental Retardation at Palembang Every parents would expect to have a child who is born healthy and perfect. But some children are born with different conditions or disability.. There are many types of disabilities. One of them is mental retardation. Mental retardation is a condition in which individuals have below average intellectual abilities. Not all parents can accept the condition of children with disability like this. This study aims to provide an overview of the attachment that is built between parents and children with mental retardation in Palembang. This study uses a descriptive qualitative research method. The technique of selecting research subjects used purposive sampling and there are thre selected subjects. Method of data collection used interview, observation, and documentation. The result of the study show that the attachment that is built between parents, especially mothers and childrens with mental retardation, is a secure attachment and anxious resistant attachment whic is two of three subjects with a secure attachment and one subject with an anxious attachment.
