Abstract

Analysis of Metallic Mercury (Hg) Levels in Musi River Waters Palembang ABSTRACT The heavy metal mercury is one of the heavy metals which is included in the B3 category (Hazardous Toxic Materials). The Musi River has a great potential to be polluted by the heavy metal mercury (Hg), due to various activities such as industry, public transportation, crossings and coal storage. Therefore, it is necessary to test the levels of the heavy metal mercury in Musi river water samples. This study aims to identify mercury contamination in Musi river water. The research method used is a laboratory-based descriptive method. Determination of the sampling point using purposive sampling method. The samples tested were taken from 3 points, namely the upstream, middle and downstream points with 5 samples at each point. From the test results it was found that the highest average concentration of mercury (Hg) was at point II (Kelurahan Kertapati) namely 0.00594 ppm, followed by point I (Kelurahan 1 ulu) namely 0.00562 ppm, and the lowest at point III (Kelurahan 1 Ulu) shampooing) namely 0.00242 ppm. So it can be concluded that the concentration of Hg at these three points exceeds the quality standard set by PP No. 22 of 2021, which is above 0.001 ppm.
