Abstract
The background of this research is the reality that the Talang Tuwo Inscription is a historic relic during the Sriwijaya kingdom, which is the only inscription that talks about the environment and the spatial placement. This inscription was made during 684 AD, and is believed to still be very relevant to the current conditions. Until now, these inscriptions tend not to be known to the public, whereas many important values on the inscription are very relevant to various environmental issues that exist. For this purpose the research tries to describe the values of the existing environment, in accordance with the text written on the stone. It also explained the important relevance of the inscription to the existing conditions. This study takes the perspective of environmental communication with discourse analysis tools. Methodologically, this research is done by qualitative method and taking side of approach of ethnoecology of communication. Most of the data obtained comes from written materials, interviews and observations on the location of the inscription. Observations were also made on environmental conditions in Palembang and South Sumatra in general. The results of this study indicate that there are environmental values that are very relevant to the existing conditions. This relevance is evident from a variety of environmental issues and a clear relationship with the text on the inscription
