Abstract

This research analyzed the correlation between academic self concept and writing performance. The research was a quantitative research. The objectives of this research were to know if there is a significant correlation between academic self concept and writing performance and to know there was a significant influence of students academic self concept on their writing performance. The subject of this research was the ninth grade students of SMP YP Swakarya Banyuasin and the sample were 42 students. This research used academic self concept (ASC) questionnaire and writing test to collect the data. The result of all participants’ ASC and writing test showed that the ninth grade students of SMP YP Swakarya were in average level. After that, the result of ASC questionnaire and writing test was examined through SPSS using pearson product moment formula. The result was (r= 0.603, p<0.05) which means that there was a positive significant correlation between academic self concept and writing performance, the researcher also used regression analyzed to found out the influence of academic self concept on writing performance and the result showed that there was 36.4% influence of the variables.
