Abstract

The objectives of this study were to find out: (1) whether or not there was a significant difference on students’ recount writing achievement between the students who were taught by Self Correction, Peer Correction and those who were not, and (2) whether or not there was any significant difference on the tenth grade students’ achievement in writing recount text on poor category, average category, good category, and excellent category between self correction class, peer correction class and control class. The sample of this study was the tenth grade students of Senior High School Aisyiyah Palembang; X.IPA class (control group) which consisted of 30 students, X.IPS 1 class (first experimental group) which consisted of 30 students, and X.IPS 2 class (second experimental class) which consisted of 30 students. In collecting the data, written test was used. The test was given twice to both first experimental, second experimental and control group, as a pretest and posttest. To verify the hypotheses, the data of students’ pretest and posttest of three groups were analyzed by using one-way ANOVA, two-ways ANOVA and post hoc test in SPSS. The findings showed that p-output from one�way ANOVA was 0.000, and F-value 35.393 which was higher than t-table 3.10 (with df= 87), then, the p-output from two-ways ANOVA was 0.000 and F-value was 28.038, then from post hoc test: peer correction group was higher than control group 3.83, self correction group was higher than control group 2.66, and peer correction group was higher than self correction group 1.16. It revealed that there was a significant difference among the three groups. It was run a post hoc test, the result showed that there was a significant difference between three groups. Therefore, it could be inferred that recount writing by using self correction and peer correction gave significant improvement on the studets’ recount writing achievement, and peer correction was shown to be the best technique of giving feedback.
