Abstract

The objective of the study is to find out whether or not there is a significant difference in the eighth grade students’ speaking skill taught by using drilling method with animated films and teachers method at MTsN 1 Palembang. And the samples were taken by using purpsive sampling method consisting of 32 students from the eighth grade students at MTsN 1 Palembang in the academic year of 2014/2015. A quasi method was used in this study. The data were obtained by means of oral test only. The result of the test was analyzed by using SPSS 16 research. Based on the result of the data analysis, there was findings: the students’ speaking score in experimental group were higher than the students’ speaking score in control group. Based on the independent sample t-test analysis,it was found that the value of t obtained was higher than t table (df=59,597) and the poutput was lower than 0,05 level. The value of t obtained was 3016 and the poutput was 0.004. it was found that t-output was higher than t-table. Than the significant 2 tailed was lower than the mean significant difference at 0.05 level t obtained was higher than t table.This means that the teaching english by applying drilling method with animated film in teaching speaking to the eighth grade stuents at MTsN 1 Palembang is effective on their speaking ability. In conclusion, there was a sgnificant difference between students abilityof students who are taught by using drilling methodwith animated film and teachers method. Therefore, the result of this study is expected to improve their knowledge how to speak english well, especially for vocabulary, pronunciation and improvement also all aspects in speaking. Finally, it is expected that the teachers of english use various teaching strategies in order to improve students’ spaking ability.
