Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the difficulties faced by the students in learning English lessons at SMP Adabiyah Palembang, Indonesia. This study used qualitative research, with a case study as the research design. The participants of this study were one teacher and three students at SMP Adabiyah Palembang, obtained by using a criterion sampling technique. The data were collected through the interview which were then analyzed and presented descriptively using thematic analysis. The result of this study showed that there were some difficulties faced by the students in learning English lessons, namely: a) lack of motivation, b) lack of reinforcement from the teacher, c) lack of vocabulary, and d) lack of exposure and practice in English.
