Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic and accompanied by current technological developments make online learning an alternative for teachers and students to continue to carry out learning and teaching activities remotely. One of the learning applications that is often used is WhatsApp, it facilitates students and teachers to connect each other inside and outside the classroom especially in teaching and learning process. This research was conducted to find out the students’ perceptions on the use of WhatsApp for writing activities at MAN 1 Palembang. This study employed qualitative method. The participants of this study were the 11th grade of social studies from MAN 1 Palembang which consisted of six students by employing maximal variation sampling. The data were collected by using interviews to know their perception on the WhatsApp in writing activities. The interview sessions were recorded and transcribed. The result of this study showed that the students felt that there is not much improvement in grammar in their writing after writing activites through, there were some difficulties in writing a paragraph with paragraph organization, the students felt that there is time flexibility in the learning process, the students felt that there is no responses from a teacher in the teaching and learning process.
