Abstract

This research is a type of qualitative research in the form of words or verbal statements, not in the form of numbers which aims to determine the application of the SQ3R method in improving the reading ability of deaf children at SLB-B Negeri Pembina Palembang. Namely: First, to determine the application of the SQ3R method. Second, to determine the reading ability of deaf children, and finally to find out the teacher's obstacles in applying the use of the SQ3R method to the reading ability of children with special needs at SLB-B Pembina Palembang. Then, the data sources used are primary data and secondary data. The data collection used is observation, interviews and documentation. Furthermore, the data analysis used by the researcher is data collection, data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Likewise, the data validity test uses the credibility test. The subjects of this study were students of class III.B deaf and speech impaired at SLB-B Pembina Palembang. In short, the results of the study show that the first application of the SQ3R method in improving the reading comprehension ability of children with special needs can be said to be quite good but teachers have not fully used the SQ3R method. (2). The reading ability of deaf children at SLB Pembina Palembang has different abilities where the ability to read must also be supported by parents to help implement the SQ3R method. (3). Teachers also have obstacles in the form of low IQ students, lack of interest in reading students. So that the application of the SQ3R method at SLB-B Pembina Palembang is very influential and improves the reading ability of children with special needs for hearing impairment. So, teachers should apply the SQ3R method as a whole so that the application of the SQ3R method runs as well as possible. Keywords: SQ3R Method, Deaf Child, Reading Comprehension.
