Abstract
Authentic materials for teaching is not a new concept, since it allows teachers to create more interesting teaching and learning. The aim of this study is to find out the teachers’ perceptions on the use of authentic materials for reading skill at SD Islam Al-Azhar 70 Baturaja. This study used qualitative with case study design. Two teachers of English at SD Islam Al-Azhar Baturaja was chosen as the participants of this study by using purposeful sampling technique. The researcher collected the data by using interview. The data obtained from the interview were analyzed by using thematic analysis. This study found some perceptions on the use of authentic materials, as follows: 1) Teacher definition about authentic materials, 2) Teacher felt that authentic materials support more creative approach to teaching, 3) Teacher felt that authentic materials expose students to real language, 4) The teacher felt that using authentic materials can lead to several challenges. According to the findings of the research, teachers are suggested to use authentic materials in teaching process as the material that lead students to experience the real language used by native speaker instead of textbook.
