Abstract

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to find out about teachers’ perceptions on the use of WhatsApp in teaching writing activities at SMA N 1 Sirah Pulau Padang OKI. It applied a qualitative method with a case study design. The participants were the 2 English teachers of SMA N 1 Sirah Pulau Padang OKI taken by using total sampling method. The data were collected by using an interview, and were analyzed by using thematic analysis technique. The results of the study revealed that there were five teachers’ perceptions of the use of WhatsApp in writing activities, as follows: (1) independent in terms of time and location, (2) lack of grammatical mastery, (3) lack of vocabulary, (4) unstable internet connection, and (5) incomplete WhatsApp features in assessing students’ writing.
