Abstract
This study aims to understand the adjustment of the marriage process to the wives of members of the Indonesian Army who undergo long-distance marriages in the Martapura subdistrict and the factors that influence it. This study used a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. In the selection of research subjects using purposive sampling technique. The subjects in this study were 3 people, who are wives of members of the Army who have experience of long-distance marriages in the Martapura sub-district. The results of this study are that even though the third subject had felt deep sadness, heavy feelings, longing, and fell ill due to the changes experienced by the subject, the third subject was able to grow motivation within himself and then chose to rise from these negative feelings both internal and external motivation. So that then the three subjects were able to adjust and adjust to the new situation both in the aspect of adjustment to partners, sexual adjustment, financial adjustment, and family adjustment. This shows from the results of the study which found that the three subjects fulfilled aspects of marital adjustment well. So it can be concluded that the three subjects were able to make marital adjustments both at the beginning of the marriage, and when undergoing long-distance marriages. The factors that affect psychological adjustment are first, 1) Internal factors, which consist of roles in the family, motivation, awareness of roles and responsibilities, and religiosity; 2) external factors, which consist of economic planning and number of children; 3) long-distance marriage experience; 4) changes experienced; 5) marital happiness.
