Abstract

This study aims to examine women's self-image in the character of Yasmin in the novel Dzatu Faqdin by Atheer Abdullah al-Nashmi, using Elaine Showalter's gynocritical approach. The analysis focuses on women's writing, women's language, and women's culture that shape Yasmin's character, as reflected in dialog and narration. The method used is descriptive qualitative with content analysis techniques, where data is taken from the text of the novel in the form of words, sentences, and dialog between characters. The results showed that Atheer al-Nashmi succeeded in portraying Yasmin as a warm, empathetic, and caring woman, but also experienced loneliness, despair, and dissatisfaction in her marriage. Aspects of female language in this novel include various forms of explicit and implied communication, as well as body expressions and multifocal elements that describe the emotions and internal dynamics of Yasmin's character. In addition, this study also dentifies cultural aspects of women that include values, institutions, social relationships, and communication methods that influence Yasmin's character development. Yasmin's overall self-image represents her resilience and sensitivity in facing the fear of death and the trauma of losing her father, which affects her emotionally and physically, reflecting the challenges of women in finding the meaning of life and identity.
