Abstract

This research is motivated by the film "dirty vote" which is an example of a work of art that seeks to provide a critical reflection on practices in the electoral system. the film "dirty vote" tries to bring these issues to the surface, by presenting political representation and criticism of the electoral system. So this research aims to analyze political representation and criticism of the general election system conveyed through the documentary film Dirty Vote by Dandhy Dwi Laksono. This research focuses on two main problem formulations: (1) how the film Dirty Vote represents the political process in the context of elections in a fictitious country, and (2) how political elements such as corruption, manipulation, and interaction between political actors are portrayed in the film. The research method used is descriptive, with data obtained from primary data sources, namely the film Dirty Vote, and secondary data sources in the form of literature related to politics, the general election system, and film analysis. The data analysis techniques used involve collecting, reducing, presenting data, and drawing conclusions to explore the meaning of the film's elements, including plot, characters, dialogue, and visuals, in conveying political messages. The results show that Dirty Vote represents a complex political process through critical narratives, highlighting issues such as political corruption, vote manipulation, and the dynamics of interactions between political actors. The film also expresses criticism of non-transparent political practices and emphasizes the need for reform of the electoral system to create a fairer and more accountable process. These findings underline how documentaries can be an effective political communication tool as well as a medium to increase people's political literacy. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi dengan film "dirty vote" adalah salah satu contoh karya seni yang berusaha untuk memberikan refleksi kritis terhadap praktikpraktik dalam sistem pemilu. film "dirty vote" mencoba untuk mengangkat isu-isu ini ke permukaan, dengan menyajikan representasi politik dan kritik terhadap sistem pemilihan umum. Sehingga penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis representasi politik dan kritik terhadap sistem pemilihan umum yang disampaikan melalui film dokumenter Dirty Vote karya Dandhy Dwi Laksono. Rumusan masalah pada penelitian yaitu: (1) bagaimana film Dirty Vote merepresentasikan proses politik dalam konteks pemilihan umum di suatu negara fiktif, dan (2) bagaimana elemen-elemen politik seperti korupsi, manipulasi, dan interaksi antar aktor politik digambarkan dalam film tersebut. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif, dengan data yang diperoleh dari sumber data primer, yaitu film Dirty Vote, dan sumber data sekunder berupa literatur terkait politik, sistem pemilihan umum, dan analisis film. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan melibatkan pengumpulan, reduksi, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan untuk menggali makna dari elemen-elemen film, termasuk plot, karakter, dialog, dan visual, dalam menyampaikan pesan politik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Dirty Vote merepresentasikan proses politik yang kompleks melalui narasi yang kritis, menyoroti isu-isu seperti korupsi politik, manipulasi suara, dan dinamika interaksi antar aktor politik. Film ini juga mengungkapkan kritik terhadap praktik politik yang tidak transparan dan menekankan perlunya reformasi sistem pemilihan umum untuk menciptakan proses yang lebih adil dan akuntabel. Temuan ini menggaris bawahi bagaimana film dokumenter dapat menjadi alat komunikasi politik yang efektif sekaligus medium untuk meningkatkan literasi politik masyarakat.
