Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the demotivating factors of English. Particularly, this study was to find out the particular factors that demotivate madrasah aliyah students’ during the learning process. The participants were 14 from purposeful sample of English students who currently studied at a Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Palembang. The study was designed as a qualitative case study and involved a interviews for data collection. The result indicated demotivating factor are (a) teacher explanation (b) experience of failure (c) students’ negative attitude towards english (d) attitudes of classmates (e) textbooks. In order to deal with the demotivation in learning English, the students learning from other sources and discussing material with teacher and friends.
