Abstract

The objectives of this study were to find out whether or not there was a significant difference before and after the treatment on the eleventh grade students’ exposition reading comprehension achievement at SMA IBA Palembang by using Intra-Act strategy and to find out whether or not there was any significant difference s on the eleventh grade students’ exposition reading comprehension Achievement in good, average, and poor categories at SMA IBA Palembang between the students who were taught by using Intra-Act strategy and those who are not. In this study, I used Quasi Experimental Design using pretestposttest nonequivalent groups design. There were 40 students taken as sample. Each class consisted of 20 students from class XI.IPA1 as control group and class XI.IPS1 as experimental group. In collecting the data, reading test was used. The test was given twice to experimental and control groups, as a pretest and posttest. To verify the hypotheses, the data of posttest were analyzed by using Independent sample t-test and Two-ways Anova in SPSS program. The findings showed that the p-output from independent sample t-test (sig 2-tailed) was 0.000 which was lower than 0.05. The result of p-output from Two-ways Anova was 0.000 which was lower than 0.05. It means that teaching exposition reading comprehension by using Intra-Act strategy had significant difference on the students’ exposition reading comprehension. Therefore, the result of this study is expected to contribute something for development of the process of English teaching and learning especially for the teaching of exposition reading text.
