Abstract

As EFL students, many students felt anxious when they learn English. The aim of this study was to find out the factors that cause English foreign language students felt anxious in learning English in the class. The participants of this study were English foreign language students of State Islamic University of Raden Fatah Palembang. I used case study method to conduct this research to identify the factors that cause English foreign language students felt anxious in learning English. The data was collected by using observation and interview. The data were analyzed by using thematic analysis. The findings indicated that there were four factors that made students felt anxious in learning English such as: 1) lack of English competence; 2) lack of confidence; 3) lack of preparation; 4) personal problems. Based on the result of finding, I hoped the students could resolve their learning English anxiety by improving their English competence, I expected the lectures could give motivation to make students motivated to reduce their anxiety and the other researchers could analyze the solution of those factors.
