Abstract

This research was an experimental research in the form of Posttest-Only Control Design that aims to determine to find out whether or not the effect of the Reciprocal Teaching model on the mathematical communication skills of grade VIII students. The population in this research were all students of class VIII at Junior High School number 51 at Palembang with sample was class VIII F as an experimental class and class VIII D as a control class who is obtained with purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques in the form of test that contain 4 problem descriptions that indicators of students’ mathematical communication skills consisting of indicators and the results of data analysis, the percentage values in the experimental and control classes were 57.42% and 62.13%. For the first indicator, 51.56% and 75.74% for the second indicator, 67.58% and 81.99% for the third indicator. As for the results of the hypothesis test obtained using the t-test calculation, it was obtained tcalculate = -2.64 and the value of the test criteria = . Because tcalculated < criterion value, it can be concluded that H0 is accepted and HA is rejected, meaning that there is no effect of the application of the Reciprocal Teaching model to the mathematical communication skills of Grade VIII students of Junior High School number 51 at Palembang.
