Abstract

Based on the research, the objective of this study was to find out the correlation between the students’ reading maturity and their reading achievement of the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Palembang. The method used was descriptive quantitave method through correlation study. The data were collected by using questionnaire of reading maturity and reading comprehension test. One hundred seventeen students were involved in the study and the data were analyzed by test analysis. The result showed that 3.4% students had high maturity, 68.3% students had medium maturity, and 28.2% students had low maturity. Besides that, the result also showed 5.1% students had excellent reading achievement, 34.2% students had very good reading achievement, 25.6% students had good reading achievement, 32.4% students had fair reading achievement, and 2.5% students had poor reading achievement. Because of that there was correlation between reading maturity and their reading achievement since the correlation coefficient or r-obtained (0.369) was higher that r-table (0.1816), and p-output (0.00) was lower than (0.05). Besides, it was also found that the students who had reading maturity had also good reading comprehension. Therefore, the correlation between the two variables were found
