Abstract

The objective of this study was to know and describe the link between students’ creative thinking ability and their essay writing. The population of this study was the fifth semester students’ of English Education Study Program of State Islamic University of Raden Fatah Palembang in academic year 2018/2019. The total number was 134 students. From the population only 102 students were taken as the sample of this study by using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected by using creative thinking ability test by Guilford and essay writing test. Descriptive statistic, Pearson Product Moment correlation, and regression analysis were used to find out the correlation and the influence between the variables. The findings arrive at a clonclusion that there was a significant correlation between creative thinking ability and essay writing with r-obtained was (.529). It was higher than r-table (.194). Besides, there was also a significant influence of creative thinking ability to essay writing with 27.9% contribution. This study could have implications for English language teachers or lecturer, learners, and text book writers.
