Abstract

This research was about using PLEASE Strategy for teaching recount text writing in senior high school. Please Strategy is a good strategy to encourage the students to be able to write individually. This research aimed to find out whether or not there were significant improvement and significant difference on the tenth grade students’ recount text writing who were taught by using PLEASE Strategy and those who were not of SMA Negeri 11 Palembang in the academic year of 2017/2018. The research design used was quasi experimental research. Tests was used as the instruments to collect the data. The researcher used class X IPS 6 as the experimental group and X IPS 3 as the control group. Both classes were in the same level, background, and competence. The result of the pre-test showed that the mean score of the experimental group was 48.57 and the mean score of the control group was 52.69. After the treatment, the mean score of experimental group was 53.44 and the mean score of control group was 45.56. It could be seen that there was an improvement after the treatments dealing with their writing ability. From the t-test computation of the post-test score, the t-value was higher than t-table (t-value > t-table = 2.438 > 1.9949). Therefore, the null hypothesis was rejected and the working hypothesis was accepted. It means that there is a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group. The results indicated that PLEASE Strategy is effective in enhancing the tenth grade students’ recount text writing of SMA Negeri 11 Palembang in the academic year of 2017/2018. It is suggested that the findings of this study could be applied regularly and continously or developed by the English teachers to have an alternative strategy in teaching writing.
