Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out (1) whether or not there is a significant correlation between language learning attitudes and English proficiency of high school students at SMA N Sumatera Selatan (2) whether or not there is any significant influence between language learning attitude and English proficiency of high school students at SMA N Sumatera Selatan. In this study, 100 XI grade students of SMA N Sumatera Selatan in the academic year of 2017/2018 were chosen by means of total population sampling. The method used in this study was a correlational study. The data were collected by using a questionnaire and a test, and analysed by using Pearson Product moment correlation and regression analysis. The result showed that (1) the correlation between language learning attitude and English proficiency of high school students at SMA N Sumatera Selatan was not significant, and (2) there is no significant influence between students’ language learning attitude and English proficiency of high school students at SMA N Sumatera Selatan.
