Abstract

The aim of the present study was to investigate the correlation and the influence between self-awareness and reading comprehension. The population of this study was all the students of the eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 Sanga Desa in the academic year 2016-2017 and the sample of this study was taken by convenience sampling method especially, IPA 1, IPA 2 and IPS 1, IPS 2, were selected as participants of this study. The instruments used in this study were self-awareness questionaire from Arabsarhangi and Naroozi (2014), and reading comprehension test from TOEFL section. Pearson product moment, regression analysis, R-square were used to find out the correlation and the influence between variables. The result revealed that there was a significant correlation between self�awareness and reading comprehension with r = .255. Besides, there was also a significant influence of self-awareness on reading comprehension with 6.5% contribution. This study could have implications for English language teachers, course designers, learners, and text book writers.
