Abstract

The study aim at SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Palembang is to find out whether there was significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between the studenrs who were taught by using IEPC strategy and those who were taught by using three phase technique. The main problem of this thesis is that there was any significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between the students who were taught by using IEPC strategy and those who were taught by using three phase technique. The sample were 91 students that were cluster random for eight grade student’s at SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Palembang in academic year of 2011 / 2012. A descriptive method was used in this study. The data were obtained by means of observation and test. The result of the test was analyzed match t-test and paired sample t-test. Based on the results of the data analysis, there were two major findings, namely (1) there was a significant difference in the students’ reading comprehension achievement between the students who are taught by using IEPC strategy and those who were taught by using three phase technique. (2) the students were taught by using IEPC strategy had better achievement than those who were taught bu using three phase technique. Therefore, the result of this study is expected to contribute something for the development of the process of English teaching and learning especially for the teaching of reading comprehension. Finally, it is expected that the teachers of English put an emphasis on the teaching of reading comprehension addition to the teaching of vocabulary and grammar / structure.
