Abstract
This study is aimed at portraying teacher’s strategies in teaching speaking to students at SMA Muhammadiyah 6 by involving an English teacher and a class of 30 students. This research is a case study type of qualitative research. In collecting the data, semi-structured interview was conducted to identify the strategies of teaching speaking. The result revealed that, among others, these three strategies were used by the teacher, i.e. group discussion, brainstorming, and storytelling. The teacher applied the strategies to help students become active during the learning process. The strategies could help the students become more active in the teaching and learning process, because the implementation of those strategies was sufficiently executed.
