Abstract
TheaimsofthisstudywaretofindouttheEFLundergraduatestudents’ understanding towardplagiarism andtheEFLundergraduatestudents’ reasonsbehindplagiarism.Theparticipantsofthisstudyweresixfinal semesterstudentsofEnglisheducationstudyprogram ofUIN Raden FatahPalembang.Themethodusedinselectingtheparticipantswas maximalvariation sampling ofpurposive sampling method.Iused qualitativemethodinthisresearchstudy.Inordertofindoutstudents’ understandingtowardplagiarism andthereasonsbehindplagiarism,the datagainedfrominterviewwereanalyzedbyusingthematicanalysis.This studyfoundthatmostofstudentshaveanunderstandingofplagiarism, andalsofoundtherewereseveralreasonsforplagiarism bystudents:1) Pressureofassignmentandtimesaving;2)Easytodo(copy-pastefrom internet);3)Feelinglessinterestedtothesubjectorlecturer;4)Desireto getgoodgrades;5)Environmentinfluence;6)Lackofconfidenceinability; and7)Theprevalenceofplagiarism andassumedtherewerenosevere sanctionsforplagiarists.
