Abstract
This study investigated the challenges in teaching and learning process in bilingual classroom at SMP Pusri Palembang. The design of this study was qualitative method to find out and describe the challenges encountered by the students and teachers in bilingual classroom. This study was conducted at SMP Pusri Palembang with three bilingual teachers as the participants taken from different subject field of that school by using purposeful sampling. In collecting data, the researcher used interviews through open-ended questions. The interviews were conducted with three teachers through 22 items. The result of the study showed that students’ and teachers’ challenges were consist of (a) Challenges based on school’s accesibility, (b) Challenges based on teachers’ experiences and skills, (c) challenges based on types of approaches in implementing Bilingual Education in the classroom, (d) Challenges based on teaching and learning material, (e) Challenges based on curriculum planning, (f) Challenges based on teaching techniques, and (g) Challenges based on assessment.
