Abstract

Scabies is a skin disease caused by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei hominis variant. The spread of Scabies is more common in children who live in dense settlements. Factors that influence the incidence of Scabies in orphanages are high population density, use of shared goods, poor hygiene, and lack of knowledge about Scabies. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes of orphaned children with the incidence of Scabies in the Palembang city orphanage. This study is a research that uses an analitik observational type of research with a cross sectional design which was carried out in February 2021. The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling with inclusion and exclusion criteria. The number of research subjects was 72 respondents. Data was collected through interviews with the caretaker of the orphanage and questionnaires. Research data were analyzed by chi-square test. The results showed that 36 respondents had Scabies. Based on bivariat analysis, the chi-square test showed that knowledge (p=0.000) with (OR=28.000) and attitude (p=0.000) with (OR=13.000) had a significant relationship with the incidence of Scabies. Based on the results of the research above, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between knowledge and attitudes of foster children to the incidence of Scabies in orphanages in the city of Palembang
