Abstract
This research aimed to find out the teachers' perception toward the use of authentic materials in teaching English for young learners at the Islamic elementary schools in Palembang. This research used a qualitative method with descriptive analysis as a research design. The participants of this research were taken from four Islamic elementary schools in Palembang and used a purposeful sampling technique to choose participants. In collecting the data used interviews with open-ended questions and in analyzing the data this research used thematic analysis and member checking to validate the accuracy of the finding. Based on the result of the research, it was found that the teachers' perceptions of using authentic materials. First, authentic materials improve the language ability of students. Second, authentic materials improve students’ motivation in learning. Third, teachers' difficulty in choosing appropriate materials. Finally, the researcher suggests for English teachers use authentic materials more often, considering from these findings that authentic materials can motivate students in learning and make students more enthusiastic in the learning process.
